Carriers

Carriers provide high-level solutions but face their own set of challenges. With anywhere from 150 to thousands of employees, carriers generate huge profit from monthly-recurring revenues derived from mobile, landline, cable, and Internet services. Carriers maintain income and profit margins thanks to existing infrastructure as well as their ability to leverage the market with a natural monopoly. Large carriers are slow to react to market changes, remain heavily regulated by the government, and face enormous expansion costs when new infrastructure is required.

Innterconnects

Often privately owned and operated, Interconnects sell phone systems and resell hosted and trunk lines. With most installs under 100 users, Interconnects compete effectively as reputation-based businesses with low overhead. This allows Interconnect companies to adapt quickly to changes. They also have the flexibility to adopt new technologies.

Due to limited time, financial, and human resources, initial investment and annual purchasing targets make them stick to one primary offering. Interconnects benefit from Run Distributions secondary and tertiary product offerings (Yealink, 3CX, etc.) to compete in a difficult market. Run also provides UPS, headsets, switches, and gateways.

ISP/ITSP

ISP/ITSP companies provide hosted IPPBX + SIP trunking services, and occasionally high-speed links. Hardware is sold but the main goal of this solution is to generate recurring revenue from services. Most ISP/ITSP companies are under ten years old, and employ anywhere from 5-25 employees (private) to 75+ employees (public). With a revenue model based on selling services, companies may purchase hardware at cost or at a loss. ISP/ITSP companies are known for selling customers on complicated business models rather than focusing on quality hardware and services. ISP/ITSP providers can compete with carriers, offering a reduced cost to the end user, and often generate extremely high-margin recurring revenue. These companies can also purchase large quantities of hardware on a regular basis when managed well.

CLEC (competitive local exchange carrier) Porting -> Bringing numbers from one network to another Origination -> calls that originate in the public switched telephone network and are carried to their destination over IP. Termination -> Routing calls from one network to another, from origination to endpoint.

Integrators

Integrators run companies of anywhere from under ten to more than 50 employees, often functioning as consultants, do repairs, or perform installations in new and renovated buildings. They offer IT infrastructure (Networking, Routing, Fire walls,Servers, Storage); provide software (ERP, Web, Mail); Security (Security Systems, Fire, BMS/Hvac, Automation Fire); Structured low voltage cabling (Cat5, copper lines, etc.) and high voltage cabling with electricians (for appliances etc.); and UC (VoIP) phone systems, call centres, gateways, intercoms, and paging. Integrators rely on large orders and tend to stick with prefab installs to generate repeat business.

Integrators rarely stock equipment as they work on a project to project basis. Due to development and staffing challenges, integrators often contract work out to third parties. They consider VoIP a tertiary offering and not a top priority. Integrators are experts at offering solutions for industry-specific needs, inventory implementation, and locating unusual products.

MSP

Managed Service Providers operate as small business or publicly traded companies that build a client base of recurring customers on support contracts. Our MSP customers typically target SMB that can’t afford full time IT Support. They have set technology partners, similar to interconnects. The MSP business model employs either an hourly or monthly rate. MSPs have the advantage of a strong relationships in the industry, an understanding of IP technology, and easy growth thanks to an existing IT client base. MSPs, however, are not strong in the hardware field, seeing it as a means to an end. They can also struggle with resources and the technology bias in the IT industry.

LARs

Large Account Reseller/Distributors move boxes from A to B. Providing hardware locally, nationally, or internationally to resellers, LARs occasionally sub-distribute products carried by Run Distribution to avoid importation, stocking and prepaying issues. LARs can have large sales volumes, and benefit from existing resellers. They also provide complimentary products that may be difficult to source/stock. LARs are challenged by marginality and bureaucratic set-ups, and do have the potential to steal clients, whether accidentally or intentionally.
